Materials Needed

  • 11 cardboard cut-outs representing five fruits (apple, papaya, mango, watermelon, guava) and six vegetables (potato, brinjal, peas, ladyfinger, carrot, onion)
  • 1 sticker sheet with fruit and vegetable stickers
  • 2 paper bags (one labelled “Fruits” and the other “Vegetables”)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step Instruction
1 Prepare the Materials:
Lay out the cardboard cut-outs and sticker sheet in front of the child. Explain the activity goal: sorting fruit and vegetable stickers into their respective bags.
2 Introduce the Paper Bags:
Provide two bags—one for fruits and one for vegetables. Discuss the difference between fruits and vegetables to help understanding.
3 Name the Items:
Encourage the child to name each fruit and vegetable on the stickers. This builds vocabulary and familiarity.
4 Sort the Fruits:
Guide the child to pick the fruit stickers one by one and stick them onto the “Fruits” bag. Help them match the stickers correctly.
5 Sort the Vegetables:
Encourage the child to pick the vegetable stickers and stick them onto the “Vegetables” bag. Praise every correct match!
6 Celebrate Sorting Success:
Applaud the child’s sorting achievement and give positive reinforcement.
7 Role Play Activity:
Set up a pretend grocery store using a table or shelf to display the fruit and vegetable cut-outs. Pretend to be the seller while the child is the customer. Let them “shop” by selecting items and placing them in the correct bags. Encourage variety and offer praise.
8 Celebrate the Role Play Completion:
Once the child finishes shopping and sorting, celebrate their success! Reflect together on the activity and praise their efforts.
